As Demand Increases This Winter We’re Urging For Financial Support

As costs continue to rise, more people than ever are turning to us for help, many for the first time. Families and pensioners are facing impossible choices between essentials like food and warmth. Financial donations are critical this winter to help us reach everyone in need.  

As winter approaches, we’re seeing more and more people turning to us for help — many of them for the first time. Families, pensioners and working-age adults are facing impossible choices, whether to heat their homes or buy food. It’s not just about keeping warm or staying fed; for many, it’s about surviving another week when every decision feels overwhelming. Over the past 12 years, we’ve worked hard to support people across our region, but this winter could be one of our most challenging yet. Rising energy prices, the reduction of the Winter Fuel Allowance for pensioners, and a troubling increase in child poverty, particularly among larger families, are driving a sharp rise in demand for our services. Last year we supported over 100 more children than the previous year, and we expect that number to double in the months ahead. Last year, we helped more than 1,800 people, and we know the need will be even greater this winter.

To keep up with this growing need, we’re now spending thousands of pounds each month to supplement food donations, which is why we must prioritise financial donations over food donations this winter. While food donations are always welcome, the reality is that we’re spending thousands of pounds each month to supplement the food that’s donated, as well as to cover other essential items and the cost of keeping our vans on the road. Each month, our delivery vans bring food and vital supplies to over 250 households across the region. Without these deliveries, many people would go without the essentials they need to get through the week.
