Living Our Values in a Changing Digital World

10/2/2025

Over the last 18 months, we’ve focused on building a presence on platforms that reflect our mission and values. As the digital landscape shifts, we’re making thoughtful choices to ensure the spaces we engage in support constructive, respectful dialogue.click here
Social media plays a key role in how we connect with our community, share our work and advocate for those we support. Over the last 18 months, we’ve been intentional about building our presence on platforms that align with our mission and values, ensuring we’re having the right conversations in the right places. As the digital landscape evolves, we continue to assess whether the spaces we engage in reflect the kind of constructive, respectful dialogue we believe in.

Making Choices That Reflect Our Mission

At West Northumberland Food Bank, governance isn’t just about policy — it’s about making thoughtful, informed choices that reflect our values in practice. One of those choices has been our decision to step away from X (formerly Twitter). This wasn’t about following trends or making a political statement — it was about ensuring that every space we engage in aligns with how we operate as an organisation.
Over time, we’ve seen the platform change in ways that no longer support the kind of respectful, constructive engagement we value. Trust, integrity and meaningful conversation are central to how we work, and when a space no longer fosters these principles, it’s time to rethink our presence there.
The choices we make — where we show up, how we communicate and the platforms we invest in — must serve our purpose, not just keep us present,
Sam Gilchrist, Chief Executive
For us, that means choosing platforms where:
  • We can engage in meaningful conversations.
  • Trust and safety are prioritised.
  • Our mission can be shared in a way that encourages action and awareness
